A former government employee is expressing frustration over repeated delays in receiving backpay owed by the state, with missed deadlines stretching from December 2024 through to April 2025. According to Antigua News Room, the individual visited the Treasury Department in person but left without receiving payment.

In a letter published by Antigua News Room, the former worker described a series of broken deadlines — originally set for December 31st, then pushed to January, then March, and now April 1st. Despite visiting the Treasury in person, the writer says staff were unable to provide a definitive answer on when payment would be processed.

The letter writer also described difficulty reaching the Treasury by phone, stating that getting someone to answer is a rare occurrence. The frustration is compounded by what the writer describes as a lack of clear communication from the department.

According to the letter, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has reportedly instructed the Treasury to process outstanding payments below $20,000. The former employee states their backpay falls below that threshold, making the continued delay difficult to understand.

"I've left working for the government for a while now and would like to close this nightmare with what I am duly owed," the writer stated.

The letter raises broader concerns about the Treasury's capacity to process payments in a timely manner and its responsiveness to former public servants seeking funds they are legally owed.
