Sports Minister Daryll Matthew has congratulated young sprinter Tyra Fenton following her standout performance at the CARIFTA Games, where she secured Antigua and Barbuda's only two track and field medals at the regional championships.
Fenton opened her campaign with a bronze medal in the Under-17 girls' 400 metres before returning to claim gold in the 100 metres — a double podium finish that has cemented her status as one of the twin-island nation's most promising young athletes.
"On behalf of the Ministry of Sports, I extend sincere congratulations to Tyra Fenton on her exceptional performance at the CARIFTA Games," Matthew said in a statement. He noted that her achievement reflects both discipline and determination, describing it as "a truly commendable achievement that speaks to her dedication and excellence."
"The nation is proud of you," Matthew added.
The Games are being held at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in Grenada. Fenton's sprint victory has highlighted her potential on the regional stage, and Antigua and Barbuda will be looking to build on her success as the competition continues.
