The Antigua and Barbuda National Olympic Committee (ABNOC) has congratulated its athletes following a standout performance at the 2026 CARIFTA Track and Field Championships, held over the Easter weekend. According to Antigua News Room, the delegation secured a remarkable 6th-place finish on the overall medal table.
Leading the charge was Tyra Fenton, who claimed double gold in the Women's 100m and 200m, and added a bronze medal in the Women's 400m. Further medals came from Maliek Francis and Zonique Charles, who won bronze in the men's and women's javelin events respectively.
ABNOC Secretary General Cliff Williams described the CARIFTA medalists as the country's strongest prospects for future success at the regional, continental, and global levels. He confirmed that the athletes will receive targeted support to help them transition along the professional pathway.
That support will include mentorship and sport-specific guidance both on and off the field, as well as academic and life-skills development to ensure athletes are well-rounded and prepared for higher-level competition. Structured preparation tailored for multi-sport events — including regional championships, Continental Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and the Olympic Games — will also be provided, incorporating mindset and competition-readiness training.
To further strengthen this development pathway, ABNOC pledged to sponsor an international methodologist to work alongside the national coaching and development teams. The methodologist will be tasked with plotting long-term athlete development plans, advising on best practices, and helping medalists prepare for the next stages of their careers.
ABNOC confirmed that this commitment extends beyond track and field, encompassing high achievers from CARIFTA Swimming and other standout athletes across all sports. The committee stated it remains dedicated to providing the resources and guidance necessary for Antiguan and Barbudan athletes to excel on the world stage.
