Prime Minister Gaston Browne has officially announced that Antigua and Barbuda's general election will be held on April 30, 2026, with Nomination Day scheduled for April 13. According to Antigua News Room, the announcement came Tuesday night before thousands of supporters gathered at the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) headquarters, People's Place, for the party's campaign launch. May 1 will be observed as a public holiday.
Waves of red filled the venue as supporters packed the grounds, creating a charged atmosphere of music, cheers and party chants. The event marked the official start of the ABLP's campaign for a fourth consecutive term in office.
Browne framed the election as a defining moment for the country, urging voters to support what he described as a record of delivery and steady leadership. He said his administration is personally committed to empowering every citizen and argued that Antigua and Barbuda has undergone a major transformation under ABLP leadership since 2014.
The Prime Minister told supporters that the country has moved "from struggle to strength," pointing to economic recovery, job growth and expanded opportunities as key indicators of progress. He said his government reversed significant job losses inherited from the previous United Progressive Party (UPP) administration and has since rebuilt a stronger and more resilient economy.
Browne also highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, including roadworks and water expansion, alongside policies aimed at improving living standards, such as wage increases and support programmes for vulnerable households. He maintained that the ABLP has delivered on its promises and continues to advance policies designed to uplift citizens.
Addressing the crowd, Browne said voters now have a clear and viable choice in "Team Labour" and warned that the country should not risk reversing the gains it has made. The April 30 vote will determine whether the ABLP secures an unprecedented fourth consecutive term, as political activity is set to intensify ahead of Nomination Day on April 13.
