According to Antigua Observer, the meeting was the 7th Programme Steering Committee Meeting of the Building Resilience of the CARIFORUM States to Disaster Risks and Climate Change Impacts Programme — commonly known as BRICS. The session brought together key regional stakeholders to advance the programme's objectives across participating Caribbean nations.
The BRICS programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of CARIFORUM states to respond to and recover from natural disasters, as well as to address the growing impacts of climate change across the region. Caribbean nations remain among the most vulnerable in the world to climate-related events, including hurricanes, flooding, and sea-level rise.
The choice of Antigua as the venue for this latest steering committee meeting underscores the country's continued engagement with regional efforts to build long-term climate resilience. The Tradewinds Hotel provided the setting for what is expected to be a critical review of the programme's progress and next steps.
