The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has treated 1,074 children through its Pediatric Emergency Department so far this year, according to Antigua News Room, highlighting the sustained demand for pediatric emergency services across Antigua and Barbuda.
The hospital disclosed the figure in a social media post on Monday, framing the number not merely as a statistic, but as a reflection of the real human need behind each visit.
"That's the number of children cared for through our Pediatric Emergency Department so far in 2026," the medical centre stated in its post.
SLBMC noted that each case represents a child requiring medical attention, a parent seeking reassurance, and healthcare professionals working to deliver quality care under pressure.
The hospital also took the opportunity to recognize the efforts of its pediatric team. "Thank you to our Pediatric team for the care, compassion, and expertise they bring to every patient encounter," the statement read.
The announcement comes as the medical centre continues to manage a consistent flow of pediatric emergency cases while supporting both young patients and their families throughout the process.
