Prime Minister Gaston Browne has moved to clarify the nature of commercial development taking place near the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, stating that the area does not constitute a formally designated industrial park.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne addressed the matter in Parliament in response to a question from lawmakers, explaining that the land in question has been allocated to individual private investors on a case-by-case basis rather than as part of a structured industrial development plan.
"We do not necessarily have an industrial park," Browne told Parliament. "The fact that a number of individuals have been given land in that area and that they're building out various businesses, then I can understand. But it's not an industrial park per se."
The Prime Minister cited a specific example to illustrate the nature of the allocations, noting that businessman Craig White was granted approximately two acres of land in the area and is currently constructing a hardware store on the site.
"So it's not an industrial park per se," Browne reiterated, drawing a clear distinction between ad hoc individual land grants and a formally planned industrial zone.
